Director of Communications

Brooklyn ImmunoTherapeutics (BTX) seeks an exceptional marketing strategist and writer to join our team as director of communications.

About BTX:

BTX, a biotech company developing novel therapeutics utilizing mRNA-based cell engineering, is based in San Diego, California. Over the last year our company has blossomed: joining the NASDAQ as a publicly traded company (Ticker: BTX), refocused our technology and product strategy, and brought on exceptional new leadership. As we continue to grow, we need a balanced and complete team of effective contributors to help achieve our goals and build a vibrant corporate culture.

Job Summary:

During our evolution, we have worked with best-in-class external agencies to provide a level of strategic and tactical support. As we finish our transition into a clear, stable long-term focus, we want to bring some of those investments in-house in order to build organizational knowledge around our communication efforts and have an internal coordinator who can respond to communication needs directly or in collaboration with our outside partners. This is an important role that reports directly into the executive leadership team and is a hub for activity with our internal and external needs. As such it requires someone with strong communication and collaboration skills along with relevant experience in communications.


  • Report to the Chief Administration Officer, serving as the conduit for all marketing or communications requests in the company
  • Manage relationships with our outside partners, including an investment relations firm and a marketing agency, to plan and execute tactics in support of our communications and strategy
  • Be the facilitator, in collaboration with our Executive Leadership Team and outside partners, for the creation of our annual marketing communications plan
  • Own and successfully execute our annual marketing communications plan
  • Coordinate the creation of core communication assets such as photography, illustrations, and written overviews, for use to meet immediate needs or as part of an ongoing repository
  • Be the primary content writer for BTX, including but not limited to website text, press releases, and social media posts
  • Manage and curate strategic communication assets such as our competitor’s database and audience profiles
  • Establishment and daily management of BTX social media channels, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Proactively suggest, and manage the implementation of, responsive tactics that capitalize on opportunities or respond to threats we face with exceptional and effective communications
  • Collaborate with HR and the Executive Leadership Team to envision internal communications tools and messaging to help us build the best possible culture
  • Collaborate with outside partners in the creation of any required messages, tactics, or materials

Education and Experience:

  • Required
    • 5+ years of communications, pr, and/or marketing experience
    • Prior experience working in a biotech company and/or a science or health-related company adjacent and relevant to biotech
  • Preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in a Marketing, Communications, and/or Writing-related field
    • Prior experience working in a publicly traded company
    • Prior knowledge and experience with any or all of: cell engineering, mRNA, gene editingExcellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • This position can either be filled remotely or as part of our San Diego headquarters
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
